Alternate Therapies
The trend over the last 10 years, world wide, has seen a 47% increase in the use of alternative medicine. This is spectacular by any means and of great concern to conventional medicine, especially since the people using alternative medicine are primarily well-educated, affluent baby boomers. 1
How is it different?Conventional medicine focuses on the relief of symptoms and rarely places emphasis
on prevention or the treatment of the cause of a disorder. All alternative
systems, on the other hand, strive to find and treat the cause of a disorder
and frown on covering up the symptoms. Alternative therapies are also
much more focused on prevention. Alternative therapies use time-tested
natural remedies and gentle, hands-on treatments whereas conventional
medicine is guided by pharmaceutical drugs and often surgery. ReikiReiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation. It can
effect the change in the chemical structure of the body, helping to rebuild
muscles, nerves, skeletal structure and regenerate organs. Reiki bring
about relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides
new vitality and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. Reiki
treats the whole person, including body, emotion, mind and spirit. There
are many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feeling of peace,
security and well being. ReflexologyReflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet or hands.
It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on different
parts of the body which correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands
and organs of the body. The treatment will consist of the reflexologist
applying gentle pressure to the feet. The application and the effect of
the therapy is unique to each person. Reflexology has been shown effective
for: back pain, migraines, arthritis, sleep disorders, sports injuries,
digestive disorders, and stress related conditions. Ear CandlingEar candling is a painless, therapeutic, cleansing procedure which removes ear wax build up through a process called "convection". The specially fabricated candles are typically nine to twelve inches long and will burn for approximately ten minutes. Some conditions that may benefit from ear candling are: headaches, ear infections, excessive wax, ringing in the ears, hearing challenges, inner ear pressure, sinusitis, imbalance and earaches and pain.
