Alison Mitchell
B.Sc. (H.K.), R.M.T.
Registered Massage Therapist
Alison has over 12 years of clinical experience.
Before becoming a Registered Massage Therapist, she worked in
rehabilitation as a Certified Kinesiologist. She has a strong
background in anatomy, physiology and body mechanics, which enhances
her manual skills and her understanding of the scientific approach to
treatment.
Alison also has specialized training in the Dr. Vodder technique of
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). This manual therapy technique
is an effective, but gentle approach to decreasing swelling and cleansing
the body"s tissues. MLD drains excess fluid from the tissues and
has a detoxifying effect by encouraging the body to eliminate built
up metabolic wastes, excess water, toxins, bacteria, protein and foreign
substances from the tissues. The gentle rhythmic and precise hand movements
of MLD alleviate pain and relax the body. It is very effective
in helping the body to heal more quickly from injuries or surgery and
minimizes the formation and appearance of scar tissue.
In her massage session, Alison carefully scans the muscle groups and
joint functions to ensure a thorough treatment. Her professional
demeanor and caring, empathetic approach puts clients at ease.
The art of massage therapy is conveyed in the treatment by her compassionate,
healing touch and the sensitivity to tissue change. She strives to find
a middle ground between a deep, therapeutic treatment and relaxation
so the client receives the benefit of both aspects.
